OK, so as I'm typing this Theo's complaining loudly in his crib and has been doing so since 5 am when K got up to to finish some work (it's now 5:30). I only disclose this so that you understand that this post might be somewhat colored by the general state of things at this moment. Crying toddler. A preschooler who will surely be cranky thanks to her brother's inability to sleep like a normal human. A husband/father kicking off his workweek early-- again. A mother/wife trying to make the best of the situation despite the fact that she'd rather be sleeping, and more to the point, rather have everyone else sleeping. So, happy birthday Theo!
Theo's birthday, as it was last year, was a multi-party affair. His big family event was again shared with his cousin Bini. This year Sarah and Pop did the hosting and truly knocked themselves out for the boys. Sarah's house is the perfect location for such an event with lots of room to run amuck and all the acreage any kid would need to run, jump and get dirty. The boys (and everyone else too) had a blast. She made another one of her mega-cakes, too. This one a dump truck overflowing with actual candy: toddler nirvana, truly.
Daddy took a day off during T's birthday week so that we can have a little family fun in his honor. We kept it simple and hit the zoo. And then so that Theo could also celebrate with his neighborhood peeps I hosted a playdate on the actual day. He enjoyed having everyone over and it was a nice and simple way to mark the event TLGH-style.
Theo can now do a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday. It's quite sweet.
And he's communicating better and better each day. However because it wouldn't be Theo if we weren't working toward some sort of deadline the doctor and I have an agreement that if he's not where he should be verbally by 2.5 yrs. then we'll call in a therapist. I'm not concerned. Either way. And I do see progress.
And despite any sluggishness in the communication arena, he never fails to amaze me just the same. The other day he out-smarted the child-locks on the kitchen cabinets. Something Esmé never attempted to do. Now let's hope he also has the brain capacity to realize not to drink the Windex.
